Introducing the world's smallest [Ex] light fitting.
Compact process illumination – Rethought for demanding applications
In many industrial sectors – especially in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries – reliable process observation is essential. Several requirements must be met simultaneously:
- Safe and powerful lighting
- Direct visual inspection by qualified personnel
- Optional accessories such as manual or pneumatic wipers
- Optional camera systems (for remote monitoring)
Limited space – A major challenge in process observation
In practice, the required space is often restricted. Especially on small vessels or reactors, integrating multiple components can be problematic. Traditional solutions such as using multiple sight glasses (i.e., one for lighting, one for observation) or large sight glasses (with high nominal diameters) are often either structurally unfeasible or functionally inadequate when space is limited.
Conditions become even more demanding in hazardous areas. The [Ex] certified components used in these areas are typically larger – which further compounds the issue of limited installation space.
nanoEx – When space is tight but performance can’t be compromised
Where compromises were previously necessary, we now have an innovative solution: The nanoEx – the word's smallest [Ex] light fitting
Compact, powerful, rugged, and highly versatile – the nanoEx stands out with:
- Extremely compact dimensions: ⌀ 34 x 140 mm
- High light output: 700 Lm (= output, equivalent to a halogen luminous flux of ~50W)
- High durability: Ta –20°C to +60°C/ IP 66/68
- Certified for [Ex] areas: According to ATEX and IECEx
Unique: Optical intrinsic safety (Ex op is)
The nanoEx is certified with optical intrinsic safety (in accordance with EN 60079-28). This ensures that even under fault conditions, the emitted optical energy is too low to ignite an explosive atmosphere. As a result, the light fitting can safely shine directly into Zones 0 – a distinctive feature currently only offered by MAX MÜLLER light fittings.
In general, the nanoEx has the following [Ex] markings:
Explosion protection: Gas: [Ex] II 2(1) G Ex db [op is Ga] IIC T4 Gb
Explosion protection: Dust: [Ex] II 2(1) D Ex tb [op is Da] IIIC T130°C Db
More efficient than you think: Focus on Lumens, not Watts
The integrated PowerLED© module achieves a high efficiency of 117 lumen/watt.
By contrast, other products with higher energy consumption (watts) often produce less light (lumens), since a large portion of the energy is lost as heat – an especially undesirable effect in [Ex] areas.
Lumens (output) is what matters – not watts (input). With the nanoEx, you get maximum light output with minimal energy consumption.
Conclusion: Small in size, big in impact
The nanoEx delivers a powerful, safe, and space-saving solution for modern process observation – ideal for compact vessels and critical environments such as [Ex] zones.
