We have a complete range of obround sight glasses made of steel and stainless steel, which are used worldwide for safe process observation. Our obround sight glasses meet the highest quality standards – according to our quality commitment “Swiss Excellence – Since 1936”.

Obround sight glasses allow the observation of a liquid level (as a level indicator), a phase separation, or a reaction inside storage tanks, silos, stirred tanks, dryers, evaporators, etc.

The obround sight glasses ready to be welded and and delivered assembled with gaskets, glass plates, and bolts. The obround shape facilitates the preparation of the welding process. All our obround sight glasses are approved by the TÜV and have a design examination report in accordance with the European Union's “Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)” (2014/68/EU).

Requirements

Our portfolio consists of three product series. Each product is configurable according to your needs. This allows us to cover all common requirements. Here is an overview of the possibilities:

LSG: Base and cover flange made of steel
LSGR: Base flange made of stainless steel, cover flange made of steel
LSGRR: Base and cover flange made of stainless steel
Sizes/ application:

Dimensions: From 186 x 80 mm to 791 x 116 mm
Free view: From 121 x 15 mm to 725 x 50 mm
Maximum operating pressure: From 2.5 bar to 25 bar and vacuum
Maximum operating temperature: 100°C or 243°C (depending on the glass plate, higher temperatures possible with mica sheets)
Materials:

Base flange: RSt 37-2/ S235, HII/ RSt 45-8/ P265GH, 1.4571/ 316Ti, 1.4435/ 316L BN2, 1.4404/ 316L
Cover flange: RSt 37-2/ S235, HII/ RSt 45-8/ P265GH, 1.4301(7)/ 304(L), 1.4571/ 316Ti, 1.4435/ 316L BN2, 1.4404/ 316L
Glass plate: Soda lime/ DIN 8902 (up to 100°C), borosilicate/ DIN 7081 (up to 243°C) (others on request)
Gaskets: Klingersil® C-4400, PTFE, silicone, EPDM (others on request)
Bolts: Galvanized steel or stainless steel
Approvals:

Gaskets with FDA approval, USP Class VI, regulation (EC) No. 1935/2024, etc. (others on request)
Machining/ special versions:

Base flange with tappings drilled through
Base flange with radiused back
Fluted/ "reflex" glass plate
Closed back of the base flange (for use of the sight glass as an external gauge of a liquid level)
Mechanical polishing up to Ra < 0.4
